This post is a part of the main post that was made for Karnataka with the theme - Indian Food Odyssey where we visited 30 Indian states and Union Territories as a part of the Mega Blogging Marathon April 2014...
I invited my fellow bloggers to my house[virtually of course] and cooked a dish for each meal of the day....
The breakfast
starts with a traditional dosay from Udupi.Udupi cuisine takes its name
from Udupi, a city on the Western coast of Karnataka.I served this with the Uppu Huli Dosay for breakfast...
The next item on our menu is a simple juice.Well, if were under the
notion that only fruits and veggies could be juice, the people of Udupi
will prove you wrong with this recipe. Yes , a juice made of green gram!
Hesaru Kaalina Paanaka / Green Gram Sherbet :
I used:
Source - Udupi Recipes
Hesaru Kaalu / Green gram-1/4 cup
Grated coconut-1/4 cup
Cardamom -1 pod
Jaggery to taste
Soak
the green gram for at least 4 hours. Grind all the things together
using a cup of water. Strain and press the residue to extract all the
juice [or as much as possible] and sip!
Enjoy the tasty beverage...
Note:
After
the first extract, the residue can be ground again adding a little
water and then filtered.[Just like we do to extract coconut milk]
Bon Appetit...
