While selecting the theme for Blogging Marathon, I settled for the easy ones. While I was thinking of the dishes for each theme,I planned in such a way that all or at least most of the dishes are new or an improvised version of the regular dish.One such improvised dish was yesterday's Carrot - Lentil Stir fry.
While planning for the second dish in the Dry Vegetable Sautes / Sides theme, I wanted to make something special for Lil Angel.She loves to have Oven fries. One weekend,when she wanted her dose of french fries, I came up with this recipe.
I just just ground the batter for idli . A small spark in my brains told me to combine this batter with potato and the result- A deliciously crunchy potato fry. Lil Angel was all smiles when I served this.She loved it and kept asking for more...
Potato - 1, large
Garam masala powder- 1/2 teaspoon
Red chilli powder- 1/2 teaspoon
1.Peel and cube potato.Keep it submerged in water till ready to proceed.
2.Pressure cook the potato cube for 2 hisses / till just done. The potato should not become too soft.
3.When the pressure releases, drain the water.
4.While the potatoes are draining, take the required quantity of idli batter and add garam masala and red chilli powder. No need to add salt as the batter already has salt.
5. Mix well.
6.Heat oil in a kadai / pan
7.Dip a potato cube in the prepared batter .[You can use a fork / spoon / your fingers or any other device for this :)]
8.Drop the batter coated potatoes into hot oil.
9.Once they are crisp and golden brown,transfer to a bowl lined with paper towel.[That 'oily' patch you see in the click is actually not the oil from the batter fried potato,in a hurry I lined a still wet bowl with paper towel and hence the smudge.]
Serve with a flavored rice of your choice or enjoy as such....
While Lil Angel loved to have these as such, I paired this with Arisi Paruppu Sadham, a one pot meal of rice , lentils and spices. Arisi Paruppu sadham is is famous in the Kongunad Region
