Small bunches are made of Mango leaves,Pula Poo, Avaram Poo and Neem leaves and they are placed in the four corners of the hose/ compound wall,a few are tied to the coconut trees and the to the entrance to the house.This is called 'Kaapu' meaning protection to our surroundings.

Fresh Turmeric roots are tied to the Pot used to preapre Sakkarai Pongal.
